In this day and age many of us would immediately turn to google and search something along the lines of “yacht charter” or “how do I charter a yacht” which would certainly provide a good starting point. However, it’s possible that the sheer volume of available information would simply overwhelm someone who is just looking for the starting line. In the previous article we discussed some of the top yacht charter destinations in the world and now we want to help shorten the learning curve for first time charterers by explaining how the process works and what to expect.
When considering a yacht charter vacation perhaps the most important decision one can make is which yacht to charter. This critical decision will drive the rest of the process including setting a cruising itinerary. As we discussed in the previous article, a yacht’s general cruising location will vary depending on the season you’re chartering in.
Do you want a tropical or colder climate charter? Season and location will be critical factors in determining what yacht to charter.

Once you’ve found the right yacht for your trip and have started a dialogue with the company and/or broker it’s time to set the cruising itinerary and make travel arrangements to and from the yacht. You’ll also have the opportunity to share your preferences for the trip, everything from food and drink to activities and general lifestyle. This is your opportunity to share with the crew exactly what you desire to turn your charter into the perfect dream vacation.
Preferences including food and drink are entirely up to the charter guests.
Once the yacht has been selected, travel arrangements made and all preferences are agreed upon it’s time to sign the charter contract and make the first payment. The charter contract will stipulate timing for additional payments and then it’s time to cast off the lines and enjoy your dream vacation!
